The Helsinki Baltic Herring Market is looking for enthusiastic foodies and craftmakers to make the event into a celebration for all citizens. The open call is for food stalls in the Market Square on the opening day, as well as for wooden cottages in the archipelago village on the Lyypekinlaituri pier all week. Coffee, crepes, cinnamon rolls, handicrafts, archipelago style bread, herring burgers… as well as food bikes and juice on wheels.
The Baltic Herring Market is open 4–10 October from Sunday until Friday 7am-7pm, as well as on Saturday 7am-3pm. The location is the maritime Helsinki Market Square, its surrounding piers, as well as the Havis Amanda statue.
The opening festivities are held on Sunday. This year, the audience can look forward to the traditional Herring Jury and a rowing contest, as well as a market place dance. The program and all vendors and partners are announced in September on the event website www.stadinsilakkamarkkinat.fi.
The application period is open from 31 July until 11 September.

The Helsinki Baltic Herring Market is one of the oldest ongoing event traditions in Finland, held since 1743. Through the years, the nature of the market has shifted from a simple marketplace to an event for the wider audience. The 2015 Baltic Herring Market is organised by City of Helsinki Wholesale Food Market, together with Port of Helsinki, City of Helsinki’s Public Works Department, Helsinki Marketing Ltd, Ruokatieto (Finnish food Information) and Tori Quarters.
